2021 Bust

Jared Goff

Quarterback

Detroit Lions

On March 18, 2021 Jared Goff was traded from the Los Angeles Rams to the Detroit Lions after four seasons in Los Angeles. This move is not good for Goff as Lions head coach Dan Campbell has said he wants to run the ball. The Lions hire of Anthony Lynn supports the idea of Detroit wanting to run the ball. As the Bills interim offensive coordinator from Week 3-17 in 2016 the Bills were 51% run-heavy (2nd-highest rate) in games within a score, when ahead 55% run (3rd-highest rate) and when trailing 44% run (highest). Goff is a very conservative thrower of the ball as he does not throw the ball deep that often. In Detroit Goff most likely will be even more conservative throwing the ball due to his lack of receiving weapons on offense.

James Robinson

Running Back Jacksonville Jaguars

Last season James Robinson was one of the best RBs of the season but that may not be the case this season. The reason is his success was in part due to the fact that he had no completion for carries in the Jags backfield. This season Robinson will have competition for carries as the Jaguars selected Clemson RB Travis Etienne with the 25th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Robinson does not catch the ball out of the backfield which is a must in an Urban Myers lead offense. Robinson’s breakout season came under a different coaching staff which means they do not have as much of an investment in him. They have more of an investment in Travis Etienne since they are the staff that drafted him.

Kenny Golladay

Wide Receiver

New York Giants

On March 20, 2021 Kenny Golladay signed with the New York Giants after four seasons with the Detroit Lions. This is not good as Golladay is going from the Lions who throw the ball a lot to a team in the Giants who are a conservative throwing team. The Giants had the 7th fewest pass attempts per game and also were 30th in percent of passes thrown 15+ yards downfield. The Giants have a lot of receivers in the pass game which means Golladay will not be the number one option in the offense. Giants QB Daniel Jones does not throw as many jump balls as Matthew Stafford did which is where Golladay did his most damage.

Dalton Schultz

Tight End

Dallas Cowboys

Last season Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz had somewhat of a breakout season. That was due to the fact that starting TE Blake Jarwin was lost to injury in training camp. This season Jarwin is back which is going to take away from Schultz opportunities. The Cowboys also have to many mouths to feed in the pass game. Schultz is probably going to be the 4th or 5th option in the pass game at best.
