Play 'EM Bench 'EM RBs For Week 1

Play ‘Em

David Johnson

Arizona Cardinals @ Kansas City Chiefs

On March 20, 2020 came one of the biggest surprises of the off-season when the Houston Texans traded WR DeAndre Hopkins for RB David Johnson of the Arizona Cardinals. DJ should get the ball a lot as the Texans will want to show that training away one of the top receivers in the NFL was not a mistake. This week he should get the ball a lot as the Texans will want to try and keep the high flying Kansas City Chiefs offense off of the field so they can pull off the upset this week. Last season the Chiefs gave up 25.37 points per game to opposing running backs. They were the 28th ranked defense at defending the running back position.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire Kansas City Chiefs vs

Houston Texans

In April's 2020 NFL Draft the Chiefs invested the 32nd pick of the first round in RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire out of LSU. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said right after selecting Edwards-Helaire that he was better than Pro Bowl and fantasy superstar Brian Westbrook. In Andy Reid's 21 seasons as a head coach he has had a RB finish in the top 10 in fantasy points in 11 of those seasons. Last season the Texans gave up an average of 28.45 points per game to opposing running backs. They were the 30th ranked defense at defending the running back position.

Bench ‘Em

Ronald Jones Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New Orleans Saints

If you thought this would be the year that Ronald Jones would break out it looks like it is not going to happen. It looks like this will mot happen because the Buccaneers selected Ke’Shawn Vaughn in the third round of the 2020 NFL draft. Until we know how the backfield carries will be split between Ronald Jones and Ke’Shawn Vaughn it will be hard to know which Buccaneers running back to start. This week they face the Saints who have not given up a 100 yard rusher and 39 straight games. Last season the Saints gave up 16.12 points per game to opposing running backs. They were the fifth ranked defense and defending the running back position.

Rams RBs vs

Dallas Cowboys

After five seasons the Rams decided to release running back Todd Gurley on March 19, 2020. Since the Rams made this move in the off-season they have not really done anything to fill the running back position but instead have said that they are going to use a running back by committee approach this season. This is not good because you will not know which running back is going to be the one to start each week. Last season the Cowboys gave up an average of 21.11 points per game to opposing running backs. They were the 16th ranked defense at defending the running back position.
