Play 'Em Bench 'Em TEs For Week 1

Play ‘Em

Rob Gronkowski Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New Orleans Saints

After a year away from the NFL Gronk made the decision lace up the cleats again in 2020. In 2018 before Gronk retired he was 11th among TEs in points (131.2). He also was tied for 9th among TEs in PPG(10.1).This week that year off should pay off for Gronkowski as he will be healthy. With Gronk and Tom Brady in Tampa this week they should look to lean on each other as the off-season was condensed due to the pandemic. The Saints gave up an average of 11.41 points per game to opposing TEs last season. They were the 22nd ranked defense at defending the TE position.

Hayden Hurst Atlanta Falcons vs Seattle Seahawks

After losing TE Austin Hooper to the Browns in free agency the Falcons replaced him with Hayden Hurst. The Falcons traded a second round pick to the Ravens for Hayden Hursts on March 18. Last season the Falcons were top 10 in TE target. They also were tied for 6th in TE red zone targets. Last season the Seahawks gave up an average of 14.54 points per game to opposing TEs. They were the 31st ranked defense at defending the TE position.

Bench ‘Em

Jets TEs @ Bills

Last season it was hard to get a good feel for who was the TE on the Jets that you wanted. And that was when they were both not healthy at the same time which helped you decide. This season they are both healthy right now which makes the decision of who to start that much harder. The Bills gave up an average of 6.33 points per game to opposing TEs last season. They were the 1st ranked defense at defending the TE position.

Austin Hooper Cleveland Browns @ Baltimore Ravens

After 4 solid seasons with the Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper signed with the Cleveland Browns on March 20. This was not a good signing for Hoopers fantasy value in part because of how many mouths the Browns have to feed in the pass game. The Browns also want to run the ball more than the Falcons did which should cut down on Hoopers chances to make plays. The Ravens gave up an average of 6.73 points per game to opposing TEs last season. They were the 2nd ranked defense at defending the TE position.
